I went into the health and fitness business out of a desire to prevent the unnecessary suffering and death of people close to me from preventable diseases. In seeking solutions, I believe that, to find solutions for the present and future, it is important to understand the past to see how things got to where they are now.
In this episode, I talk about some of the effects of slavery on the African-American diet, and how many of those effects persist today and contribute to the disproportionate poor health outcomes in the African-American community.
